Ever since the automobile was invented, we’ve had ‘A NEED FOR SPEED’! The competition was great between the Europeans and Americans to see who could ‘ROLL’ the fastest. On the packed sands of Daytona Beach Florida in the early 1900s, Mr. Olds and Mr. Winston were setting records (recognize those names?) Thru the 30s Men met there to tear-up equipment. Then Prohibition gave these guys bootlegging to profit from their fast driving skills running illegal whiskey in Appalachia (the ‘Deep South’ - Carolinas etc) Carrie Nation lost her Cause in March of 1933… these guys were saying “Now, what!?!! Seeing ‘Wild Bill’ Hickok and Annie Oakley traveling the West shooting the flame off a candle wick AND Barnum & Bailey in the Midwest having Girls standing on horses, these guys thought “WE can go from town to town and maybe someone would PAY to see US drive around in circles!” So organized auto racing was primarily formed in the 1940s.

2013 Victory Junction Camp for Children
Now from ME (this Webmaster – site owner): On Sunday October 13th 2002 I was doing business paperwork while watching NASCAR on TV and saw a commercial about THIS project. Had my computer on so I logged on and sent $200 with my Credit Card. Without me having a whole lot of money, I sent a separate e-mail stating ‘I hope this money really goes for the KIDS… will it really be built?’
Unbelievable! 15 minutes later Brian Collier (CEO/Exe Director) calls me on the phone! He said ‘Yes the money will go for the kids and camp’ very nice and thanked me many times. He sent me a Certificate and ‘form’ letter dated October 15, 2002… AND he actually signed it himself and hand wrote ‘WOW! What a great gift! Thank You!’
I was so impressed that I showed these to 400+ Big Truck Managers and mechanics in 6 SE States during the year after!

....is the Camp on 84 beautiful acres donated by Richard and Lynda Petty with a NASCAR racing theme. 42 buildings and program areas, such as Adam's Race Shop, Goody's Body Shop (medical center), the Hendrick Motorsports Fuel Stop (dining hall), the Silver Theater, the Kyle Petty Charity Ride Across America Water Park, the Michael Waltrip Operation Marathon Sportscenter, Kurt Busch Superdome, Jimmie Johnson Victory Lanes (bowling alley), Jessie's Horse Power Garage (stables and riding arena) for no shortage of fun and activities....
In 1999 the NASCAR Petty Family participated in a charity motorcycle ride for seriously ill children camp in Florida. When Adam (19 yrs old) saw the joy of those kids, he dreamed of building a camp in North Carolina for children with chronic medical conditions.
With ‘on-the-edge’ racing against fierce competition, this Sport is SAFE. We learn by doing, if something happens we fix it so it doesn’t happen again. Sometimes the ‘fix’ takes a while! For NASCAR and some Families, 2000 at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway was a very BAD year. In July, Kenny Irwin, Jr. a promising young driver lost his LIFE. Earlier in MAY Adam Petty passed on there. SAME TRACK – SAME REASON! Nothing this tragic happened before… SAME YEAR! Neither their age nor experience level factored into these events, the throttle stuck. Bad Luck!?!! Now, each car has a ‘Kill Switch’ on the steering wheel!
Adam’s parents, Kyle and Pattie Petty, took action to make Adam’s dream come true. As they worked at this, they became involved with The Hole in the Wall Camps founded by philanthropist / actor Paul Newman. (You know, the Salad Dressing Guy! He got interested in racing at Watkin's Glen for the filming of Winningin 1969 and actually came in 2nd at the 1979 24 Hours of Le Mans! and PS: Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid was filmed in 1969).

Chick-fil-A's Kyle Petty Charity Ride Across America is a 10-day motorcycle ride through various cities nationwide. Since the Ride began in 1995, more than 6,100 riders have logged 7.9 million cumulative motorcycle miles
and donated more than $12 million to children’s charities.
The cost of sending a child to camp is valued at $2,500, but no child or family incurs that cost thanks to generous donors.
Last year, volunteers sacrificed an estimated 76,222 hours to assist Little Camper with....

Mr. Bill France, Sr. formed his ‘circuit’ in 1947 as NASCAR (National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing. Wow that’s a mouth full… like saying the words of what NASA stands for!). One of the pioneers of this Sport was a young 22 year old guy who won the 1st REAL Daytona 500 (miles), Lee Petty! From him came a son Richard who raced from 1958 to about 1992. He followed in Dad’s ‘foot throttles’ and became known as ‘THE KING’ (Move over Elvis!). From him came Kyle who raced from 1978 to about 2007. Then the 4G (like the phones) Great-Great Grandson Adam started racing in 1998 when he was 18. Of course there were other offspring, very good people! A big ole giant Family maybe like your and mine… except
